What types of individual therapy are available?
There is no single correct method, and a therapist who tells you otherwise is selling something. Good work usually borrows from several, chosen for what you are actually dealing with rather than what the practice happens to offer.
The approaches we use most:
- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Psychodynamic Therapy
- Humanistic/Experiential Therapy
- Interpersonal Therapy
- Supportive Therapy
What is individual therapy?
Understanding the therapy
Fifty minutes, once a week, with one person whose entire job in that hour is you. It is unglamorous, and it is the most reliable thing we have. Common reasons people come:
What changes is rarely the circumstances. It is the grip they have on you. You catch the spiral earlier. You say the thing instead of rehearsing it for three days. The jaw unclenches. These are small, and they compound.
Benefits of individual therapy
Psychotherapy has one of the stronger evidence bases in health care. Reduced symptoms, better daily functioning, fewer sick days, and improvements that tend to hold after the sessions stop.
Symptom Relief
Anxiety, low mood, and distress come down to a level where the day belongs to you again.
Daily Function
Better focus, better sleep, and enough capacity left over for the things you actually want to do.
Work And Life
Fewer sick days, less dread on a Sunday, and a job that stops occupying the whole of you.
Stronger Relationships
You get better at saying what you mean, and at hearing what the other person actually meant.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Questions we often asked
Q1: Who is individual therapy for?
Adults, adolescents, and children dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, relationships, or a life change that knocked things sideways. You do not need a diagnosis to book.
Q2: How long does it take?
Some people come for eight sessions and are done. Some stay two years. We will tell you honestly where we think you sit, and we will not stretch it out.
Q3: What actually happens in a session?
You talk. Your therapist listens properly, then asks the question nobody else has asked. Between you, you work out what is driving the pattern and what to do differently this week.
Q4: Is everything confidential?
Yes, with narrow legal exceptions around immediate safety. Your therapist will explain exactly what those are in the first session, before you say anything.
Q5: How often will I come?
Weekly to start. That is what the evidence supports. It can drop to fortnightly once things are steadier.
